Shoulder pain

A common complaint that can get in the way of almost everything. The first job is finding the cause; the second is giving you back a shoulder you can trust.

The shoulder is a complex joint surrounded by muscles, tendons and ligaments that all have to work together. Pain can come from an injury, from overuse, or from the way the joint moves, and a thorough assessment is how we tell which.

How physiotherapy helps

Once the underlying cause is clear, treatment combines hands-on techniques such as manual therapy, joint mobilisation and soft tissue work with targeted exercises and stretches. The aim is to settle the pain, restore movement, and rebuild strength and stability in the joint.

Your physio will also look at the things that keep a shoulder sore: how you work, how you train and how the shoulder moves under load. Guidance on ergonomics, activity and shoulder mechanics is part of the plan, so the problem does not simply return once treatment stops.

Strength testing for shoulders

For athletes and anyone returning to overhead work, we use VALD ForceDecks and a dynamometer to measure shoulder strength and asymmetry objectively, which tells us when it is safe to progress and when it is safe to return.
