The practice

Physiotherapy in the centre of Wollongong since 2003. One-on-one care, a rehab gym you can use between appointments, and a team that has worked everywhere from local clubs to the Olympics.

Who we are

Phyxit opened in 2003 and has been in the centre of Wollongong ever since. Director Cat Croghan is an APA Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist who represented Australia as a physiotherapist at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and travels with the Dolphins, the Australian swimming team. The physiotherapists around her have worked with the Wests Tigers, the Young Matildas, the Wollongong Wolves and the Fiji women's netball team, and with everyone from elite athletes to weekend warriors.

We treat sports, musculoskeletal, post-operative and neurological conditions, and we work the same way for everyone: a proper assessment first, hands-on treatment, and a plan written for the activity you want back.

Your first visit

Assessment consultations run up to an hour, one-on-one with your physiotherapist. No time is wasted on machines while your physio disappears.

What happens

  • A thorough assessment of your injury and how you move
  • Biomechanical analysis, with ViMove sensors or VALD force plates when they add something
  • Hands-on treatment: manual therapy, mobilisation, dry needling, taping
  • Exercise prescription you can do at home or in our gym
  • Education and advice, and a referral for imaging or a specialist if it will change the plan

What to bring

  • Clothing you can move in, such as shorts and a singlet
  • Your sporting or work footwear
  • Any imaging you already have: X-rays, scans, MRI reports
  • A referral and claim details if you are a workers compensation or CTP patient
  • An adult, if the patient is under 16

Between appointments

  • Follow-up consultations are one-on-one too
  • The gym program your physio writes can be done in the Phyxit gym free of charge
  • Bring a towel and a water bottle; there is a cold water dispenser
  • Extra gym time is available as your rehab needs it

Paying and referrals

Private patients do not need a referral. If you have one, give it to your physio so they can keep your doctor in the loop.

On the day HICAPS and EFTPOS. Claim from your health fund on the spot and pay any gap by card.
Workers comp and CTP Bring your referral and claim details so your physio can complete the paperwork. Every physiotherapist except Cat sees workers compensation patients.
NDIS Self-managed and plan-managed participants are welcome; service agreements are written to suit your plan.
Referrals on Sports physicians, orthopaedic surgeons, podiatrists and sports dietitians when your recovery needs them.
