Sports, musculoskeletal, post-operative and neurological physiotherapy, from the first assessment to the day you are cleared to play. Everything starts with up to an hour, one-on-one, with a physiotherapist.
Physiotherapy
The gateway to everything we do is a one-on-one session with a physiotherapist who assesses and treats your injury, then writes a personalised injury management plan with you.
We rely on evidence, not guesswork, so the first visit is a full assessment of the injury and of the way your body moves. Biomechanical assessment can use ViMove sensor technology in the clinic, and if a scan will change the plan we refer you for X-rays or an MRI.
Depending on the injury and what you want to get back to, your plan may include a sport-specific rehabilitation program, dry needling, joint mobilisation and manipulation, soft tissue work, muscle energy techniques, and therapeutic or sports taping.
Hands-on treatment in the clinic
Sports and dance screening
Ever wondered whether your sport puts you at risk of injury? A screening before, during or after the season is the answer. We tailor each one to the demands of your sport, and you do not need to be injured to have one.
Muscular and neural tightness, strength deficits and stability problems are all examined through hands-on clinical assessment, with VALD testing where it adds something. The results tell us what to work on to keep you on the field or in the studio all year and beyond.
Pointe assessments and tertiary dance screenings are carried out in house.
Whether it is casual sport on a weeknight or competition at the highest level, nobody enjoys the sideline. Being pain-free is only the first step; returning to exercise and to sport is an essential part of the pathway.
Every activity asks something different of the body, so your exercise prescription is written for the one you want back, whether that is running, swimming, bowling, e-sports or anything in between, and it is built to keep you injury-free long after you return.
For most surgical repairs, the operation is only the start. Rehabilitation afterwards protects the repair and gets you back to activity efficiently. We communicate with your specialist and the other health professionals involved so your program is exact and individual, including the decisions about progressing exercises, returning to work and returning to sport.
A total hip replacement, a hand or wrist repair, back surgery, an ACL reconstruction: post-operative rehab is for all of them.
Force plates and a dynamometer used to be confined to research labs and elite teams. VALD's lightweight, portable ForceDecks and an intuitive app make it easy to measure your strength, movement, asymmetry and balance in the clinic.
Team sport, Olympic sport, performing arts or a workplace injury: we use ForceDecks to benchmark where you are, monitor your progress and train you towards your goals, with real-time objective numbers rather than a feeling.
Dry needling uses a thin acupuncture needle to release trigger points, the knots that sit within a muscle, and the tension around them. It can target a muscle locally or address the problem more globally, and it is a quick, effective way to relieve pain and spasm.
It is also useful before exercise prescription, releasing a muscle so it is in the right position to be strengthened.
Vertigo (BPPV)
Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo is common, and with the right diagnosis it can be treated by a qualified physiotherapist. All of our physios have completed extra training to diagnose BPPV, treat it, and teach you a home program that gets you back upright and feeling yourself.
NDIS
If you or someone you care for is self-managed or has a plan manager, you can use our physiotherapists for your physical health needs under your NDIS plan. Every appointment is one-on-one, and plans and service agreements are written to suit your situation.
We work with musculoskeletal problems as well as control, balance and skill building, in a way that is tailored to you. There is undercover, secure disabled parking, and carers are always welcome to stay and have a tea or coffee on us.
Pregnancy and post-natal care
Our physiotherapists work with you during and after pregnancy: managing pain so your pregnancy is as comfortable as it can be, through exercise, hands-on treatment, support garments and braces, and afterwards helping you get back the control, strength and movement you had before.
We stock SRC support garments in the clinic.
Remedial and sports massage
Massage therapy is now provided by The Health Lab, who we recommend and work alongside: 5/8-10 Victoria Street, Wollongong, (02) 4244 8971.
